Tokyo - Day 2

Sunday was definitely a day of eating! Tom and Tomoko took us to their favorite gyoza restaurant. There was quite a long wait to get a table, but very worth it! We indulged in piles of gyozas - fried and steamed, bean sprouts with meat sauce, pickled cabbage, cucumbers with miso dressing, chicken broth and rice. Oh, and a few ice cold beers.
After lunch we wandered around the Harujuko area - here are a few of the infamous, but dwindling Harujuku Girls. Next stop was a lovely stroll through the Meiji Temple, which was right in the same area.
Tokyo street performers - the Rockabilly Boys.Katie finally got to experience the real Tokyo she was expecting - gazillions of people everywhere and a neon light extravaganza! This shot is in the Shibuya area of Tokyo. For dinner, Keiko and Joe took us to one of their favorite local noodle houses in their neighborhood of Shin-Maruko. It is in the Kawasaki prefecture, just across the river - so not actually in Tokyo proper. Dinner was fabulous - another authentic Japanese experience, with low tables (no chairs). We enjoyed pickled eggplant, some gorgeous Aji sashimi (they fried the head and fish bones after we ate the raw slices), cold soba noodles, tempura and tonkatsu (breaded, fried pork cutlets - a nice tender selection from the pork belly! You know I was in heaven!).
